Tree Sparrow Numbers Increase

I don't know whether it's the recent cold weather but I had my highest Tree Sparrow count at the feeding station for the winter when I called to feed this afternoon; they numbered 171! The supporting cast included three Yellowhammers, a Stock Dove, a Reed Bunting, two Grey Partridges, a Great Spotted Woodpecker and twenty Chaffinches.

Another busy day report writing for me tomorrow so all I might be able to report on is moths, but it's going to be cold so I don't hold out much hope for catching many!

That is very encourageing news indeed, lets hope these numbers are an example of a nationwide trend.
All the best Gordon.

It is encouraging Gordon and I hope that we can help them recover nationally. I haven't looked at my Atlas yet that dropped through teh door last week to see how they have fared since the last Atlas. They are fairly easily to cater for and respond very well to the provision of nest boxes and some over-winter food.

I didn't realise they were that scarce in Kent Warren.
